On Friday, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the statutorily required report on the Medicare predictive analytics and fraud prevention program.
The report helpfully outlines the design, implementation, and management of the fraud prevention system (FPS).
The analysis of the Office of Inspector General— which isstatutorily required to “certify” the results of the FPS—reveals important questions CMS will need to more thoroughly address in the weeks and months ahead.
Dr. Coburn has been critical of the lack of transparency for the FPS’s findings, as has former Sen. George LeMieux who authored the provision of law creating the program.
A staff summary that examines some of the report’s key findings—findings which raise more questions—is available here.
