BHM receives $22M federal grant to buy land
Birmingham International Airport will receive $22 million from the U.S. Transportation Department to purchase land surrounding the airport for noise abatement for area residents and businesses.
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, R-Ala., a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, earmarked the federal funds for Birmingham.
"Investing in Birmingham Airport's infrastructure will not only provide the safest and most efficient transportation services for Alabamians, but will ensure that the area remains desirable for residents and businesses," Shelby said.
